Experience, Interpretation, Education in Montefalco and Trevi
from 3 to 30 September 2023
The 500th anniversary of the death of Pietro Perugino is a precious opportunity to discover his
works and explore their stories and qualities in Umbria. The Union of Municipalities Terre dell'Olio and del
Sagrantino offers for the entire month of September the opportunity to travel among the hills of olive trees, vineyards,
villages and works of art with a cycle of free appointments. The event “Il Perugino. Montefalco and
Trevi” will be held from 3 to 30 September 2023 with a particular focus on the places they preserve
works of the divine painter in the two cities: the San Francesco di Montefalco Museum Complex and the
church of Madonna delle Lacrime di Trevi.
Experience, interpretation, education are the three keywords of the project. The program
provides events and shows of a tourist and cultural nature for all ages, to rediscover and
enhancement of historical places and local specialties. Guided tours and urban trekking itineraries
will bring from the works of Perugino, and local masters inspired and trained by the lesson of the great
Maestro, to discover the territory, the landscape and the artistic heritage offered by the two villages.
The museums will host pleasant performances dedicated to families and inspired by the works of
Maestro and from the places where they were made. Finally, the two new ones will be presented
tourist publications on Perugino in Montefalco and Trevi, created specifically for this
project with the contributions of art historians, archivists and restorers who have in their path
studied and deepened the works of the Master.
