The exhibition of the triptych "Virgin and Child Enthroned with Saints and Scenes from the Life of the Virgin and Saint Clare," a work by Giovanni di Corraduccio, owned by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Foligno, opens on Friday, July 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. in the Church of San Francesco di Montefalco.
This exhibition offers a significant opportunity to deepen one's understanding of Giovanni di Corraduccio, an Italian painter who painted in the Gothic style, active primarily in Umbria and the Marche. It will highlight his artistic talent through a direct comparison with his fresco works.
The event is organized by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Foligno in collaboration with the Municipality of Montefalco and Maggioli Cultura e Turismo.
The Church of San Francesco di Montefalco houses a series of frescoed chapels, including the Chapel of the Passion, whose decoration is attributed to Giovanni di Corraduccio. The frescoes, with their subjects related to the Passion of Christ, display a strong stylistic coherence with the panel works preserved at the Trevi Museum, highlighting a rhythm and typology of figures that reflect a distinctive narrative approach.
The frescoes in the Chapel of the Passion are dated to the first fifteen years of the 15th century, paralleling the famous frescoes in Fabriano. This temporal and stylistic connection provides further evidence of the attribution to Giovanni di Corraduccio, allowing us to better contextualize his artistic contribution within the context of the Umbrian Late Gothic period.
The combination of the Triptych and the frescoes therefore offers a more complete and nuanced view of this painter's art, highlighting his significant contribution to the decoration and visual narrative of his time.
For this reason, the Triptych will be placed in the central nave adjacent to the Chapel of the Passion, frescoed by the artist.
The Triptych exhibition enhances the Complex's exhibition offerings, positively impacting the cultural offerings. It ensures greater visibility and intense promotion, both for new visitors who will have the opportunity to explore such an important work, and for regular and local visitors who will have the opportunity to discover and explore the Museum's new perspective.
The Triptych exhibition is scheduled to run until January 11, 2026.
The inauguration will be attended by: Monica Sassi, President of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Foligno; Daniele Morici, Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Montefalco; Elisabetta Rambotti, Art Historian, Maggioli Culture and Tourism; and, representing the Umbria Region, Sarah Bistocchi, President of the Legislative Assembly; and Alessia Sirci, Staff of the Department of Culture and Vice President of the Umbria Region.

The San Francesco Museum Complex hosts the works of four artists: Annie Hsiao-Ching Wang and Karen Hui-Yu Lo, originally from Taiwan, and the Italians Frank Dituri and Mauro Manetti. The themes they address are, on the one hand, female identity and family conflict, and on the other, the transcendental dimension. Toward a poetic horizon.
